The Inter-House netball tournament saw Caverel take the win. Admittedly, in the last quarter, as we all got more and more fatigued, the opposition capitalised from our errors, but we still managed to pull through and remember the basics and skills we had been working on throughout the whole season and ended up taking home the win which was very well deserved!’ We ended the third quarter two up against Mount Kelly but still wanted to maintain this lead up until the end. We all tried to prioritise the basics, for example, taking care of our passes, watching our footwork and communicating as a team. The 1st VII Girls netball team also enjoyed a sports tour to Devon in March playing against Mount Kelly and Plymouth College.įrom Laila, team captain: ‘We started off the match against Mount Kelly very strongly and dominated the first two quarters. In March the U15s took part in a County Tournament, finishing in third place from a total of 41 schools. In February the U16 hockey squad were undefeated in their pool games against Truro School, Poole Grammar, Beechen Cliff and Mount Kelly at the Southwest Regional Hockey Tournament. Congratulations to Jimmy and Louis for being awarded Coaches’ Player of the season, and Leo and Shotaro for being awarded Players’ Player of the season.
VII SUPER PLAYER PROFESSIONAL
The 1st XI Boys’ hockey tour weekend to Devon saw two great fixtures against Mount Kelly and Exeter University hockey club. As part of the trip, the boys also had the opportunity to watch a professional match with Exeter taking on Durham.

The Sevens tournament started in 1939 and is now the world’s largest rugby tournament with over 10,000 boys and girls aged 11-18 competing annually. The Rosslyn Park School Sevens tournament – one of the highlights of Downside sporting life – resulted in some exhilarating wins and super player development. We’ve had a number of boys selected to play for Bath Rugby Academy fixtures this term including Charlie (Lower Sixth), Luke and Nicolas (both Fifth Form), who represented the Academy at the Warwick Festivals last weekend.

Whilst our main sports for this term have been netball (girls) and hockey (boys), there were plenty of other active options on offer at the School including the Downside Athletic Development programme, basketball, rugby sevens, swimming, football, cross country, table tennis, indoor tennis pathway, cricket training, fencing, golf, squash and kayaking. The Lent Term has been a busy one for Downside Sport.
